New York Beauty quilt top finish

As I already mentioned, I entered the Quilting Gallery's wall hangings contest. While I was there, I noticed this quilt by Teresa at Quilting, stitching and sew on:
I had been doing the New York Beauty sew-along at Sew Sweetness, but having got to block 4, my enthusiasm was waning. So when I saw this, I thought - hey, if I get one more block done I could finish my quilt off in the same way.

So I worked on it all weekend, and here it is:
Apologies for the crap picture quality (as always. I really need to find a tutorial or something!)

Beautiful parcel!

I won, I won! Thank you so much to Maria of Not only quilts! And oh is it a beauty! Look look look (or, as I said to my mum earlier, "Let's see your beautiful fabrics from Malta? Oh yes, that's right, you haven't got any. I HAVE!!) LOOK:

Look how much fabric! it's about 2 half yards and 2  fqs, I think. The patterned ones are by Kitty Yoshida:
And she sent lots of extra bits, ribbon and buttons, etc:

Her blog is so inspiring, and she's one of the Moda bakeshop chefs (oh and she's gorgeous, cow! lol) so go check out her blog :)

Unashamed plea for votes!

I have entered a competition and would love it if you would vote for me! My entry is called 'Time for Tea':

I don't mind not winning, but I'd hate to get NO votes! Check it out here!

I'm back!!

Hey hey, lovely people! I am back from my holidays! We went to Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales. Well, actually....we've been back since Sunday, but I was being lazy and pathetic and haven't got around to blogging since then, I'm sowwy :(

I know there is nothing more boring than other people's holiday pictures, so I will just share a few faves.

A couple of beautiful views:

A farmer herding sheep on his quadbike:

Some adorable baby lambs (the main reason I go to Yorkshire at Easter):

And our meal out - we went to Simonstone Hall, it's where Kate Winslet had her honeymoon, dontcha know, hmmmm!

As for WIPs (seeing as I missed two WIP Wednesdays!), while I was away I did all the cutting out for my Bali Pops Peace Medallion quilt, and I sewed a few of the bunnies for my colleagues quilt, so I think I've done 8 out of 12 now. Oh and I made a mug rug too! But I haven't photographed any of those things, so no piccies, but if I can summon up the energy to shift my bottom off this sofa, you may just get some piccies later!

Confession time!

Ok, it's time to 'fess up - I've been a very naughty blogger. You see, I haven't been entirely truthful with you :( basically I have a few more projects on the go that I haven't owned up to, so when it looks like only a few projects have been neglected on my WIP Wednesdays, it's actually a few more :(

What happened was, this popped up on my reading list:
...and I thought 'wow, what a fab idea!' I HAD to know more. So I pootled on over to Cut to Pieces to find out more, and followed the link to Just Three at Traceyjay Quilts. The idea is, to stop herself being overwhelmed by projects, Traceyjay will set herself 3 things to complete by the end of each month. Sounds great, yes?

Well that got me to thinking what I would like to complete, and I realised that before I could narrow down my WIP Wednesday list, I would need to make it a full and complete list of every project on the horizon. *cue embarrassed look*

So here is my new, 'improved', fully truthful WIP list (the 'new' additions are the ones with pictures!):
In progress:
New York Beauty Quilt Along
'Binkies on Broadway' baby quilt
 Nicey Jane quilt-as-you-go
Flower quilt made from leftovers of Oasis by Three Sisters jelly roll
Bali Pops Peace Medallion
Cafetiere cover with fabrics won from Canadian Abroad
Brown and pink bag:
Alphabet baby quilt:
Batik mini quilt:

Not started yet:
Butterscotch & Rose jelly roll quilt
Hunky dory jelly roll quilt

So from those I am going to choose 3 to focus on at a time. Not 3 a month like Traceyjay, but 3 to focus on at any one time, and then if one gets finished I can replace it with another off my WIP list.

So my first Just Three are:
  1. New York Beauty Quilt Along
  2. 'Binkies on Broadway' baby quilt
  3. Brown and pink bag
Wish me luck!

New York Beauty Week 5

Well, it's week 5 for everyone else:

Sew Sweetness

Check out this week's tutorial at In Color Order. However, I've only just finished week 3:

*sigh* but I'm pretty proud with it so far. Add that to two of these:

And that's where I am at. I think what I will do is sew them together in matching blocks of four, and then sew my 9 favourite blocks into a square lap quilt and the remaining block can be a mini quilt. I have noticed that there are two distinct hues emerging, one much warmer, and one bluer. Had you noticed that too? So alternatively I could do two mini quilts each with 20 squares, but then I'd only have half a circle of each design. Hm, decisions, decisions!
